This genealogy research started from the surname Lemke. Fred Lemke came to Manitowoc from Germany, north of Berlin, in 1889. His older half brother, Henry Zannacker, was already in Manitowoc when he arrived. Henry started Zannacker Cleaners that remained for many years in downtown Manitowoc. Ten years after Fred Lemke arrived, he married Frank Jacquette’s daughter, Elizabeth. Frank Jacquette’s wife was Catherine Hoffmann. This led to research on the Hoffmanns. Elizabeth Jacquette Lemke is the maternal grandmother of John Klein. Both Hoffmanns and Jacquettes first settled in the southern part of Tn. Mishicot along the Mishicot Rd, near Tannery Rd. and were neighbors. Both families were Catholic. Some of the earliest burials in both families were most likely in the Holy Cross Catholic Church cemetery in Mishicot.
