Johann (b. 11 Oct. 1852/bapt. 29 June 1853 (died) RECALL DAY OF WEDDING 60 YEARS AGO Many Guests Are at Celebration Held in This City ECHTENACHERS WEDDED 60 YEARS Memories of sixty years of companionship together, of joys shared with each other, of sorrows lightened by ever ready sympathy, were recalled by Mr. and Mrs. William Echtenacher of this city today in the celebration of the sixtieth anniversary of their wedding day and blessed with a wealth of friends surrounded by their children and grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Echtenacher are observing the anniversary in a quiet manner and reaping a full measure of happiness from the notable event. It is doubtful that the state affords more than one or two parallels to the celebration. Wedded in this city September 17, 1850, Mr. and Mrs. Echtenacher immediately took up their home in the residence, 916 Washington Street which has housed them ever since and which is the scene of the day's celebration. Mr. Echtenacher was a potter by trade and the couple are among the best known pioneers of the city, loved and respected by all who knew them. Mr. Echtenacher retired from active business 20 years ago. Despite their ages, Mr. Echtenacher being 87 and his wife, 77, both are in robust health and they greeted the friends with the same happy spirit which prevaded their home sixty years ago. The seven children of the couple are present and this celebration is in the form of a family reunion that is a happy gathering. Among out of town people who are here for the celebration are Messrs & Mesdames Wm Meadow, A. Schreiber, J.J. Barke, O.J. Bush, Emil and Gus Echtenacher, all of Chicago and Mr. and Mrs. L.A. Hicks of Holland, Mich. Three grandchildren of the aged couple are also present, being Grace Echtenacher, daughter of Gustave, Ellen Bush and Evelyn Bush. It is the first time the family has been together in a number of years and it is being made the occasion for a most joyous celebration. Many friends in the city have visited the home during the day and tendered congratulations and well wishes to the bride and groom of other days. Manitowoc Daily Herald, Sept. 17, 1910

EGGERS: Joseph m: 19 Aug 1896 (co. mar. index v.6 p.369) to: Annie Nottage The Nottage-Eggers Nuptial The wedding of Miss Annie Nottage and Dr. Jos. Eggers which took place last Wednesday evening was the most notable event of the kind that has taken place in this city for many a year. Indeed, in size and elaborateness, it may be safely counted as the most notable wedding that ever took place here. The bride is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Nottage, well-known and highly esteemed residents of this city. She is an amiable and accomplished young lady and has ever been a favorite with her associates. The fortunate groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Eggers Sr., also well-known residents of this city. He recently completed a course in the Chicago College of Dental Surgery and in company with his brother, George, has begun the practice of his profession in this city. The general opinion is that the union is a most happy one and it is said that the bride and groom have been sweethearts since childhood. The wedding ceremony took place in the east parlor of the Nottage Residence which had been beautifully decorated for the occasion. Under a floral arch suspended from the bay window, the young couple stood while they plighted the vows which made them man and wife. The marriage ceremony of the Congregational Church was used and Rev. J.N. Davidson, the pastor of the Congregational Church in this city, officiated. At half past 8 o'clock, Prof. B. Wetzel, seated at the piano in the parlor began playing Lohengrin's Wedding March and to its harmonious strains, the wedding party descended to the parlor and arranged themselves beneath the floral arch. During the wedding ceremony, Prof. Wetzel played a softened sympathy which greatly added to the impressiveness of the ceremony. The brother of the groom, Dr. George Eggers acted as best man and Miss Myrtle Bates, the cousin of the bride served as bride's maid. Two pretty little girls dressed in white acted as flower girls and preceded the wedding party to the parlor. We shall not undertake to describe the dress of the bride or the suit worn by the groom, as we are not used to that kind of descriptive writing, but we must concede that they made a very attractive looking couple and the congratulations that followed the ceremony were as genuine as they were general. For days previous to the wedding, while the preparations were going on, the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Nottage was a scene of life and activity. Over the lawn a canvas was spread. The tables, four in number, capable of accomodating one hundred and twenty guests were artistically decorated with fruits and flowers and were loaded with all that English hospitality could suggest or culinary skill invent and overall this tempting array fell the mellowed light of many fantastic Chinese lanterns. The banquet which immediately followed the marriage service and reception was something that will be long remembered by the many guests present. There were about two hundred guests present and after the reception of the bride and groom under the floral arch the banqueting began. This lasted until about 11 o'clock and then the entire party adjourned to Turner Hall which was only about a block distant and a season of dancing was begun which lasted until about 2 o'clock in the morning. In the hall the wedding march took place under Bengal lights and the scene was almost like one from fairyland. The following is a list of guests from abroad: Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Willott Sr., Manitowoc; Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Willott Jr., Manitowoc; Mr. and Mrs. Wm Willott, Manitowoc; Sam Willott, Manitowoc; Mrs. Berlin Sniffin, Manitowoc; Mr. and Mrs. A.H. EISERT: Johannes m: 27 Oct 1898 (co. mar. index v.7 p.27) to: Margaretha Schuhmacher Sheboygan Zeitung, Nov. 1, 1898, p. 7, c. 2 Franklin – On Oct. 27th the marriage of Mr. Eisert from Schulberg and the widow Schumacher from Ada took place. The young couple will be residing in Schulberg. Thanks to the wedding, the restaurant owners aIm(sic) in Ada and Buschman in Schulberg distributed a free lunch. ********* Plymouth Correspondent, Nov. 2, 1898, p. 4, c. 2 St. Nazianz – Mr. Johannes Eisert from Schulberg thought that being alone wasn't much fun and with the help of a friend he found out that Mrs. Margaretha Schumacher felt the same and would not be adverse to being courted. An agreement was soon reached and that's how we saw the two old people at the altar on Thursday. The wedding celebration took place at the bridegroom's house. Refreshments were provided, and with music and singing the time flew by. Mr. F. Wacker had composed a poem for the occasion and read it aloud. Later, most of the guests went to Mr. Joseph Buschmann's establishment where there was dancing. It was already 2 a.m. by the time the party broke up and the guests started for home Translations courtesy of Ortrud Trapp.
