BURITH: Albert m: 31 Oct. 1871 (co. mar. index v.4 p.50) to: Anne Sartori Mrs. Anna Burich, 87, a resident of the county for over 70 years, died early today at her home in the village of Reedsville. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. from the St. Mary's Catholic church in Reedsville. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery. Mrs. Burich nee Anna Satori, was born in Czechoslovakia in 1851 and at the age of 15 accompanied the family to America. The trip was fraught with danger. The boat on which they were passengers suffered a mishap at sea and was able to reach Quebec only after being badly damaged by severe storms. Bound for Wisconsin the emigrants were on a train that went through a bridge across the St. Lawrence river, several hundred perishing. Mrs. Burich was badly injured in this accident and was confined in a Canadian hospital for weeks. The family settled in Rockland and at the age of 19 she was married to Albert Burich. They located on a farm a half mile south of Reedsville. Thirty-four years ago they moved into the village. Mr. Burich died in 1918. She was a member of the St. Ann society of the St. Mary's congregation. Survivors are three daughters, Antoinette, and Mrs. E.J. Shimon of Reedsville, Mrs. John J. Kirch of Cato; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Manitowoc Herald Times, Friday, May 19, 1939 P.13 ********* (Note: I cannot find her in the cemeteries. BURMEISTER: Byron b: 20 April 1852, in Mishicot, WI. m: 9 Sept. 1885 (co. mar. index v.5 p.262) to: Maria Falge DEATH OF MRS. BYRON BURMEISTER OF ONEKANA (sic). Mention was made in last week's Pilot of the death of Mrs. Byron Burmeister at Onekama, Mich., who was a Manitowoc girl and whose maiden name was Mary Falge. The following obituary is taken from the Manistee, (Mich.) Press. After a long and serious illness of eight months' duration, death brought relief to Mrs. Mary Burmeister, wife of Byron Burmeister of Onekama, at 6:45 Saturday morning, August 18. She was well known throughout the county, having made Onekama her home for the past thirty-two years. Mrs. Burmeister was the daughter of Mr. Hubert Falge of Manitowoc, Wis. She was born in Nachod, Bohemia. When three years of age she came to America with her parents to make her home in Manitowoc, Wis., where she lived until nineteen years of age. Her mother died when she was twelve years of age, then she being the eldest daughter became the mother of the family. When seventeen she taught school at Mishicott (sic), Wis. At eighteen she taught in the Manitowoc high school. At nineteen she became the bride of Byron Burmeister and came directly to Onekama which has been her home ever since. She and her husband have contributed much to the development of that community. She has always been an energetic and hard working woman. Tasks that others considered impossible, she would accomplish with success. She was ever ready to do a "good deed," never expecting to be repaid. It was through her efforts that several young men received pass ports and tickets to cross the ocean and they are now some of our respected citizens. It was through her efforts that an old homeless lady was brought from Europe to Onekama and given a place in her own home and her children were taught to call her "aunt." She was always helping someone and Onekama and the community will miss her. She was a great lover of flowers, her favorite being the for-get-me-not seed in many a Michigan brook and stream in the hopes that the current would carry and plant them along its bank. Mother Nature has taken up the work and made them grow and blossom and produce and re-produce their kind. This is why we so often unexpectedly find patches of the beautiful blue for-get-me-not in our neighboring woods. This is what Mrs. Burmeister called her "life's monument"-one that will live forever. Her father, husband and three children survive her: Berta, the post mistress of Onekama, William and Norma, all being at home. Also two brothers and four sisters are left: Dr. L. Falge of Manitowoc, Wis., L.O. Falge of Ladysmith, Wis., Mrs. H. Morris of San Diego, Cal., Mrs. M.A. Coppos Los Angeles, Cal., Mrs. Max Rahr, Jr., of Manitowoc, Wis., and Mrs. Bertha S. Barnard of Manistee. The funeral was held at the Onekama Congregational church Tuesday, August, 21, all her people except her two California sisters being present. Mrs. Wm. Burmeister and Mrs. Levenhagen, mother and sister of Mr. Burmeister, were also in attendance at the funeral. Prof. Baker, assisted by Rev. Jensen of Chicago, officiated. Floral offerings were profuse and beautiful, pieces coming from all over the country. If flowers signify tributes of respect, then indeed Mrs. Burmeister was greatly respected. It has long been conceded that George and Clara were the finest looking, as well as the most devoted young couple in the city and we see no reason why they should not marry. Yet in this spiteful age, we should not be surprised to hear it suggested by the young ladies that George might have done better, while the gentlemen will be ever so positive that Clara has “thrown herself away”. Later he was transfered to Illinois and returned to Niles two weeks ago to claim his bride. Dr. Atherton has been attached to the government service for 21 years. Dr. and Mrs. Atherton will take up their home at 4205 Berkely Ave., Chicago, and will be at home to friends after January 15.
