     THE SILENT MESSENGER
     STODTLANDER (sic)
     An illness of only one month duration terminated the earthly career of Bordos
     Stadtlander, when at his home on South Eleventh street, he responded to the
     call of the Silent Messenger late Tuesday night. Death was due to throat
     trouble and was rather unexpected, no serious results being anticipated from
     the illness. Deceased was 54 years of age and had been a resident of Manitowoc
     a long time. A wife and two brothers survive. Funeral arrangements have not 
     been made but it is very probably that the body will be taken elsewhere for
     burial.

Irene V. Schuler, 88, of 1110 Cleveland St., Kiel died Wednesday 
morning, Dec. 27, 1995 at the home of her daughter, Diane, of 
rural Wisconsin Dells.
She is the former Irene Stahl born May 19, 1907, daughter of the 
late Cyriack and Katherine Ruplinger Stahl.
On Nov. 10, 1931, she married Alphonse Lisowe in St. Nazianz. He 
preceded her in death in February 1968. In March 1980, she married 
Herbert Schuler at S.S. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Kiel.
She was a member of S.S. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Kiel and the 
Christian Women’s Society.
(Survivors omitted for privacy.) She was preceded in death by five 
sisters, three brothers, one step-son and one granddaughter.
Funeral mass will be held at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 2, 1996 at S.S. 
Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, with the Rev. Loren Nys, S.D.S. 
officiating.
Burial will be in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery, Lake Geneva. Friends 
may call at the CHURCH, on Tuesday, from 3 p.m. until the time of 
services.

STAHL-GOMOLL.
A pretty home wedding was celebrated at the home of Mr. and Mrs. 
Wm. Gomoll 1816 Washington street when their daughter, Miss Augusta 
Bertha was joined in wedlock to Mr. Emil F. Stahl. Rev. Machmueller 
officiated and the ceremony was witnessed by about forty invited 
guests. The bride was attended by Misses Josephine Stahl, Ricka 
Kasten and Louise Baruth and the groom by Messrs. Henry Klein, August 
Tech and Willie Stahl.
Immediately after the ceremony a sumptuous wedding repast was served 
and the happy couple were duly congratulated. After supper the guests 
joined in celebrating the event and joy was unconfined. At twelve a 
lunch was served. The couple were the recipients of many beautiful 
presents.
The bride the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willima Gomoll and is an 
accomplished young lady. The groom is the son of Mrs. Chas. Stahl and 
is a young man of ability. He is an ex-member of Co. H, and was with 
the command at Porto Rico. The Herald joins with a host of friends in 
wishing the new partners a joyous voyage o'er life's turbulent sea. 
"May you live long and prosper."
Mr. and Mrs. Stahl will be at home to their friends after March 1st. 
at their home on South Fourteenth street.

PROF. STANGEL MARRIED TO MISS ANNA B. SCHLEIS
The wedding of Prof. Charles G. Stangel and Miss Anna B. Schleis took place at 
the home of the bride in Tisch Mills, Monday. Prof. Stangel is well known in 
educational circles.
Prof. Stangel was born and reared at Tisch Mills, and his common school course 
was completed in his home village. He attended the Two Rivers high school and 
from which he graduated in 1888. For a number of years he taught in common 
schools.
In 1892 Mr. Stangel graduated from the general science course at Valparaiso, Ind., 
and in 1899 graduated from the University of Wisconsin, winning high honors at 
the head of his class in physics. Since graduating from the state university Mr. Stangel 
has come to the front as a leading educator, and for a number of years was instructor 
in the Madison high school.
During the summer months of the past several years Mr. Stangel has been a 
conductor and a promoter of summer schools and his effort in this direction has 
been very successful. He will teach physics in Wed Division high school of Milwaukee 
the coming year. While attending the university Mr. Stangel was at the head of a number 
of athletic clubs and in 1886 won the world's record in discus throwing. Mr. Stangel's 
bride is a leader in social circles in her home and possesses much musical talent.

Mrs. Milton Timm, 63, of Plymouth, a former Kiel resident, died 
Thursday at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Wittkopp 
Funeral Home, Plymouth. The Rev. Samuel Bullough will officiate and 
burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Plymouth.
The former Ella Stark was born May 6, 1892, at Kiel, daughter of 
the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stark. She was graduated from Kiel High 
School in 1909 and attended the Spencerian Business College at 
Milwaukee. On Nov. 17, 1917, she was married to Milton Timm and they 
located in Plymouth.
Her husband was employed by the Kiel Cheese and Butter Co. and the 
Plymouth Cheese Co. and for eight years was secretary of the Sheboygan 
County Farm Bureau.
Surviving are her husband; daughter, Mrs. Berill Andren of Dearborn, 
Mich.; son, Fred in Tokyo, Japan; two sisters, Mrs. Calvin Reineking 
of Kiel and Mrs. Abe DeMunek of Milwaukee.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Monday.

And Francis Creek Couple Can No Longer Agree - Others.
After more than thirty-five years of wedded association, during 
a greater portion of which domestic felicity and contentment had 
marked their lives, the love that drew Mr. and Mrs. John Stastny 
together has grown cold and marital misery that followed has made 
union unbearable to the husband who now asks the law to set him 
free. The case is on trial on Circuit Court today.
Mrs. and Mrs. Stastny who reside in Francis Creek, were married 
in July 1865 and have made Manitowoc county their home for many 
years. They are the parents of five children all grown up. The 
husband is 55 years old while the wife is 54.

Mr. and Mrs. Max Stauss Celebrate China Wedding.
In this city on Feb. 15, 1879 occured the marriage of Mr. Max 
Stauss and Miss Henrietta Leverenz, and yesterday Mr. and Mrs.
Stauss celebrated their china wedding at their home on 
Washington Street. In the afternoon they entertained relatives 
and friends in honor of the event and the happiness of the day 
was only equal by that of twenty years ago.
The couple have resided in this city continuously since their 
marriage and three children have blessed their happy home. 
They are Rose, Max and Carl and they are all at home. The event 
was made a memorable one by the numerous and beautiful gifts of 
friends which were received by Mr. and Mrs. Stauss. The HERALD

Katie Saur which took place Wednesday morning at St. Joseph's Catholic 
church at Kellnersville, the Rev. F. Kolar officiating. Stephen Stefl was best 
man and Mary Sauer maid of honor. After the ceremony the happy event was 
celebrated at the home of the bride here. In the evening the bridal party and 
guests went to Stephen Menchal's hall where they spent the evening in feasting 
and dancing. Mr. Stefl is a prominent farmer near Taus. His bride is a handsome 
young lady and is popular in social circles here. The young couple will make their 
home on the groom's farm near Taus. Your correspondent together with a large 
circle of friends wishes the newly wedded couple a happy and prosperous 
wedded life.

Notes From Greenstreet:
On Tuesday of last week Miss Mary Kvitek of Maribel and Carl Steinbrecher of 
Wabeno, formerly of Maribel, both well known in this vicinity, were joined in 
wedlock at St. Wencel's Catholic church. Rev. Steinbrecher of Kaukauna, a brother 
of the groom, officiated. The couple were attended by Adolph Kvitek and Matilda 
Steinbrecher. The ceremony was witnessed by the members of both families and 
few intimate friends. Mr. and Mrs. Steinbrecher will reside at Wabeno. Their many 
friends here with them success and happiness.

Last Tuesday, at the home of the bride's parents, Adolph Stiner (sic), a well known 
young man of Kossuth, was united in marriage to Emma Speol (sic), a respected 
young lady of the same town. The reception was held in the evening at Branch at 
Shaffer's hall. A very large crown was present and reported a fine time.

Erwin Stephany
Erwin Stephany, 91, long time Redwood Falls businessman, died Tuesday 
at Sunwood Care Center.
Services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Catholic 
Church with Rev. Henry S. Christenson officiating.  
Pallbearers will be Paul and Thomas Stephany, Gregory, Brian, Kelly and 
William Tetrick.  Interment will be in the church cemetery. Friends may 
call at Nelson Funeral Home this evening and prayer service will be at 8.  
Mr. Stephany was born Feb. 14 1892 in Manitowoc, Wis., a son of Charles 
and Elizabeth Schwarzenbart Stephany. He attended St. Boniface Elementary 
School and Manitowoc South and North High Schools. He received his bachelor 
of science degree in mechanical engineering from University of Wisconsin-
Madison in 1913.  
His marriage to Irene Forster took place at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church 
at Springfield June 10, 1924. He was an engineer of electric and natural 
gas companies at Aurora, Ill., and Pittsburgh, Pa., and was executive 
secretary of the natural gas division of American Gas Association in 
Pittsburgh when the company transferred its headquarters to Dallas, Texas 
in 1929. In 1935, the Stephanys moved from Dallas to Redwood Falls where 
he became partner and manager of the Forster’s Furniture Store. He retired 
in 1961.  
He was a member of St. Catherine’s Church, organized and was first president 
of the Men’s Club and instrumental in organizing the Ushers Club. He also 
was a member of Lions International 60 years, charter member of the Pittsburgh 
Lions Club, past president of the Redwood Falls Lions Club, fourth degree of 
Knights of Columbus 65 years, was appointed to the first hospital board when 
the city took over the old hospital on the corner of Washington and Fourth 
Streets and served as secretary until the new hospital was constructed in 1952. 
He also served in various positions in the retail division of the Chamber of 
Commerce.  
Survivors include his wife; daughters (private); a son, (private); nine 
grandchildren; four great grandchildren; four great grandchildren, and a 
sister, Mrs. Henry (Erna) Hofmann of Framingham, Mass. He was preceded in 
death by a sister, Mrs. Carl (Blanche) Levenhagen.

MARRIED
The home of Mrs. O. Torrison on Michigan Avenue in this city was the scene of a 
pretty wedding Tuesday evening, the contracting parties being Miss Agnes M. 
Torrison of this city and Mr. Charles Crawford Stewart of Chicago.
The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Isaac B. Torrison of Decorah, Iowa, 
brother of the bride, in the presence of the members of the two families and a few 
intimate friends. The house was beautifully decorated with masses of flowers, palms, 
ferns and smilax. The bridesmaids were Miss Inga Bredeson of Deerfield, Wis. And 
Miss Eleanor Laird of Pittsburg, and Mr. M. A. McKinley of Chicago was Mr. Stewart's 
best man, while little Martha and Oswald Torrison were the ribbon bearers.
The ceremony was performed in the west drawing room and the bridal party entered to 
Mendelssohn's Wedding March. The bride entered with her brother, Mr. Tomas E. 
Torrison, and the groom with his best man.
After the ceremony the guests partook of a wedding dinner in an artistically decorated 
dining room. Appropriate toasts were given by a number, Rev. Bredeson acting as 
toastmaster.
Mr. and Mrs. Stewart left later in the evening for a wedding trip in the East. The couple 
will reside in Chicago.
The bride is a daughter of Mrs. O. Torrison. She was born and reared in this city and is 
a graduate from the North Side High School and Wellesley college, Penn. She is an 
accomplished young lady and has a wide circle of friends.
Mr. Stewart is a prominent business man of Chicago. He is associated with his father in 
the management of the Chicago Veneer Door company of that city.
The out-of-town guests at the wedding were: Judge Oscar M. Torrison and family, Dr. 
George Torrison and family, William Torrison, Mr. and Mrs. A. Stewart, parents of the 
groom, Miss Ferguson, all of Chicago; Rev. A. Bredeson and family, Deerfield, Wis.; Rev.
